Baroque violin model Jacob Stainer anno 1679

This violin with baroque set-up is based on the model of a violin made by Jacob Stainer in Absam anno 1679. The original instrument’s neck is unaltered and has a length of 130mm, which is exactly the standard length of a contemporary violin. So much for the widespread prejudice that baroque instruments always had shorter necks! I sourced the wood for this violin from my friend and colleague, David Wiebe from Woodstock, N.Y. This violin has a very even and round sound with an easy response and a huge capacity for modulation.
